Your electrical hub

Your switchboard has a big job.

The switchboard sits at the centre of the property's electrical system, distributing power across the circuits that serve lighting, outlets, appliances and other equipment.

If the board is older, repeatedly tripping or the property has undergone significant electrical changes, it can be worth having the setup reviewed.

Signs to look out for

When should the switchboard be checked?

You do not need to diagnose the switchboard yourself. If something has changed or the electrical system is behaving differently, JP Electrical can investigate it.

Repeated circuit trips

One or more circuits continue to switch off instead of remaining on during normal use.

Older switchboard

The switchboard or protective equipment appears older and you are unsure of its current condition.

Visible damage

The enclosure, switches or electrical equipment appears damaged or different from normal.

Partial loss of power

One area or group of circuits loses power while other parts of the property remain on.

Renovation or new equipment

The property's electrical requirements have changed through renovation, appliances or other upgrades.

Not sure what you have

You have moved into the property and want to better understand the existing switchboard setup.

Switchboard assessment

Start with what is already there.

Before deciding whether anything needs changing, it makes sense to understand the current switchboard, the electrical issue being reported and what has changed around the property.

From there, JP Electrical can discuss whether the requirement is fault finding, replacement equipment, a broader switchboard upgrade or other electrical work.

Review the board Start with the current equipment and condition.
Understand the issue Consider tripping, power loss or planned changes.
Explain the options Discuss the electrical work that appears necessary.
Complete agreed work Carry out the required electrical work once confirmed.

What can we help with?

From repeated electrical trips to a planned upgrade, JP Electrical can work through the switchboard and circuit related requirements of the property.

Switchboard Assessment

Review the existing board and discuss any electrical concerns, changes or planned work around the property.

ASSESSMENT

Switchboard Upgrades

Upgrade older electrical equipment where the existing switchboard no longer suits the property.

UPGRADES

Circuit Protection

Electrical work associated with protective devices and the way individual circuits are protected.

PROTECTION

Tripping Circuits

Investigate circuits that repeatedly trip instead of continuing to operate normally.

CIRCUIT FAULTS

Renovation Support

Review switchboard and circuit requirements when a renovation changes the electrical layout.

RENOVATIONS

New Appliance Loads

Review the electrical setup where significant fixed appliances are being added or changed.

APPLIANCE UPGRADES

Additional Circuits

Discuss circuit requirements where new electrical work creates additional demand around the property.

CIRCUITS

Fault Investigation

Investigate switchboard or circuit related electrical faults and determine the appropriate next step.

FAULT FINDING
When not to ignore it

Something electrical not looking right?

Switchboards contain live electrical equipment. Do not remove covers or attempt internal repairs yourself. If something appears damaged, repeatedly trips or has suddenly changed, contact JP Electrical to discuss what is happening.

CALL 0499 090 330 EMERGENCY ELECTRICAL
Repeated tripping A circuit continues switching off after being reset.
Visible damage Part of the switchboard or electrical equipment appears damaged.
Sudden power loss One or more parts of the property unexpectedly lose power.
Intermittent electrical issue The fault comes and goes instead of remaining constant.
Electrical changes Problems begin after new equipment or electrical work is introduced.
Unsure what is happening? Describe the symptoms and let JP Electrical work through the next step.
Switchboard upgrades

When the property has moved on.

The electrical demands on a property can change significantly over time, even if the switchboard itself has stayed much the same.

Renovations, air conditioning, kitchen appliances, additional circuits and other electrical changes can all be reasons to review whether the current setup still suits the property.

Renovations Review the board as the electrical layout changes.
Air conditioning Consider electrical requirements for added equipment.
Kitchen upgrades New fixed appliances may change circuit requirements.
Additional electrical work New circuits can change what the system needs to support.

Renovations & upgrades

Think about the electrical system early.

If a renovation includes new lighting, power points, air conditioning, kitchen appliances or other fixed electrical equipment, the switchboard and circuits form part of the bigger electrical picture.

Reviewing that early can help identify whether additional electrical work should be incorporated into the overall project.

RESIDENTIAL ELECTRICAL
How it works

Review. Understand. Upgrade if needed.

Start by telling JP Electrical what has prompted the enquiry, whether it is repeated tripping, an older board, renovation work or another electrical concern.

01

Tell us what is happening

Explain the electrical issue or planned work around the property.

02

Review the switchboard

Consider the existing electrical setup and the reported requirement.

03

Discuss what is needed

Explain whether repair, fault finding or an upgrade appears appropriate.

04

Complete the work

Carry out the agreed switchboard or electrical work.

Switchboard questions

Common questions.

The answer depends on the existing board, its condition and what the property now needs. If you have an older setup, repeated circuit trips, renovation work or significant new electrical equipment, JP Electrical can review the switchboard and discuss what appears appropriate.

Repeated tripping can have several possible causes. Rather than repeatedly resetting the affected circuit, tell JP Electrical which circuit is involved, what was being used when it tripped and whether the problem has happened more than once.

It can be useful to consider the switchboard as part of the electrical planning where a renovation is adding circuits, appliances, lighting, air conditioning or other significant electrical changes.

Some fixed electrical appliances can have different electrical requirements from the equipment they replace. Where required, the existing circuit and switchboard setup can be reviewed as part of the appliance connection work.

Yes. JP Electrical can investigate switchboard and circuit related issues such as repeated tripping, partial power loss or other electrical behaviour that appears abnormal.

Do not remove switchboard covers or attempt internal electrical repairs yourself. If there is a problem, describe what you can safely observe from outside the board and contact JP Electrical to discuss the issue.
